A Friend of Dr. McFarland

Dr. McFarland and Dr. Jarvis shared the stage many times. Over their years of speaking, they became friends and exchanged thoughts through many letters and discussions. Dr. McFarland sent Charlie the following:

Dear Charlie,

It was a real privilege for me to hear you and visit with you at Houston. Your ability to hold a tired audience at such a late hour was truly remarkable performance. Going back to Kansas City on the plane Friday morning, Dick Gardner and I agreed that you did a great job. I was also much impressed with the attitude of the audience toward you personally. As nearly as I could tell it was a mood of 100% good will.

Charlie, you have carved out a distinctive niche for yourself in America and you fill it superbly. What you are doing constitutes an important contribution, and I deeply hope the Lord will decree that your voice “will long be heard in the land.”

Lets get together as often as we can. In the meantime, do take care of yourself for your family’s sake, because all of your friends and fans love you, and because in these somber times, America needs you. Remember, the Psalmist said, “How beautiful upon the mountain are the footsteps of him who bringeth glad tidings.”

Kenneth McFarland

I think that if you asked Dr. McFarland who he thought the greatest humorous speaker of his time was, he’d say Dr. Charles Jarvis without hesitation.

With that in mind, I’ve decided to make Charlie’s hallmark talk, “Prescription for the Happy Life” available here as a free download. His good clean humor and common sense approach is much needed. Take a listen and if he makes you laugh, share it with your friends!
